Obituary of murder victim Kaysie Sorenson
Kaysie Sorenson

Kaysie Sorenson was 33 when she met Bolsinger at a bar in Magna, Utah on March 29, 1980. They went back to her friend’s place but, during their sexual encounter, she made fun of him. Enraged, Bolsinger wrapped a clock radio cord around her neck and strangled her to death. He stole a stereo and left her body on the bed, where she was found the next day by her friend.

Bolsinger Kills Himself

On March 23, 1988, Bolsinger was found dead. He had killed himself in his Springfield home at the age of 31. At the time, he was not a suspect in the murders of Hensley, Dickinson and Toohey.

After Bolsinger’s Death

Eugene Police continued working on the cold case murders of Hensley, Dickinson and Toohey. Over the years, they investigated and dismissed many suspects. In September, 2017, police tried Snapshot Phenotyping, which uses DNA to determine simplistic physical characteristics. They hoped it would generate a new suspect when the information was released in 2018, but it went nowhere.

Parabon Nano Labs began offering Genetic Genealogy and Eugene Police began to use the service in mid-2018 to find the killer.

On February 2, 2022, after extensive follow-up, and the analysis of additional evidence, in conjugation with Genetic Genealogy, Eugene Police announced John Charles Bolsinger as the killer of all three women.
