Info chart on gender of victims

In a survey of 356 serial murderers, there are 2089 victims. The victims represent people from around the world, dating from the 1800s to today.

Globally, 79 per cent of all homicide victims were male and 21 per cent female (The European Institute for Crime Prevention and Control, affiliated with the United Nations (HEUNI)). However, that percentage changes when serial murderers are involved.

The gender of the victim may not be identified in public records. For example, older public records may identify the victim only as a “baby”. For others, they are identified only by initials, such as R.S., with no gender mentioned.

Twenty one (1%) victims are of unknown gender.

Six hundred and ninety-seven (33%) of the victims were identified in public records as male.

One thousand, three hundred and seventy-one (66%) of the victims of serial killers were female.
