Thirty-year-old Mehmet Naci Zeyrek met Zengin in a park in the Kartal district of Istanbul on My 28, 2008. After drinking together, the two men went to a wooded area near a local cement factory for sex. Zengin attacked Zeyrek, slitting his throat and bludgeoning him to death with a rock. Zengin stole the dead man’s ID and phone and threw his body into the septic pit on site. Zeyrek had two children.

Ercan Coşkun was taking a day off from his baking job, and was relaxing on the beach. He was attacked and robbed by Zengin on June 27, 2008. However, when Zengin saw people coming close enough to identify him, he fled, leaving the man’s body.
Yaşar Mızrak

Zengin met Yaşar Mızrak at a beach in Kartal on July 19, 2008. Seeking sex, the two men headed to the woods outside the same abandoned cement factory where Zeyrek was killed. As Mızrak was undressing, Zengin attacked him, slitting his throat. He then threw the murder victim into the same septic pit where Zeyrek was left. Mızrak was 44 years old and had three children.
Enes Arıcı

Enes Arıcı was enjoying the day drinking on the beach when, on July 28, 2008, he met Zengin. The killer enticed his victim with the promise of sex, and took the man to the abandoned cement factory. There, Zengin attacked Arıcı, slitting his throat. Unlike the previous victims, Arıcı was not dead when he was thrown into the septic pit. Arıcı was 25.
Bodies Found

On August 5, 2008, some children playing near the abandoned Yunus Cement Factory noticed a bad smell, and investigated. The bodies of three men were found in the septic pit by the children. Police were called and the fire brigade was summoned to retrieve the bodies. Mızrak had identification on him, and was immediately identified. Using DNA from relatives who had recently reported a missing person in the area, police were able to identify the other bodies as Zeyrek and Arıcı.

A task force of 8 people was established to find the killer, using surveillance and an examination of recent public disorder incidents in the area. Özkan Zengin, who had been in a recent fight, became a person of interest. Undercover police followed Zengin for two months, watching as he visited the septic pit where his victims were dumped, a number of times. Combined with phone records and interviews with potential witnesses, Zengin was arrested in Taksim Gezi Park on November 20, 2008. After his arrest, Zengin quickly confessed to all the murders. He also confessed to killing Tarık Güreller (Güzeller) and Aziz Taşdemir. Their bodies were not with the other murder victims.
Zengin’s Outcome
News coverage available online on this case has been contradictory and scant. Özkan Zengin was found guilty of 3 (one account says 6) deaths and received a life term for each count.
