Arrests & Trials
Ricky Lee & Sharon Green Arrested
- April 27, 1989
- Fort Worth, Texas
Sharon Green, now the killer’s ex-wife, told a drug addiction counsellor about the murders. She was encouraged to go to police. She told police that he had given her details about the crimes, but she has remained silent out of fear.
Police used the information from Sharon, along with Crime Stoppers tips and previous work, to build a case against Green. He had long been a suspect in one case, and Green was arrested April 27, 1989. During his incarceration, Green went on a hunger strike to protect prison conditions. He also tried to hang himself with a T-shirt, but clearly was unsuccessful.
Bloody Mattress Cover
- May 10, 1989
- Fort Worth, Texas
During the investigation, Green was also linked to another attack. Green’s father had been storing a mattress cover for his son. He turned it over to police, who found bloodstains on it. Both Green and his wife claimed it was from an attack in 1984 or 1985. They had brought a man to their home, attacked him, and took him to hospital. Police could not verify the information.
Sharon Green Guilty in Monroe Case
- February 23, 1990
- Fort Worth, Texas
At her first trial, prosecutors decided against seeking the death penalty, suggesting Sharon Green had a developmental impairment. Sharon claimed she was a victim of spousal abuse, and forced to participate. She said her husband forced her to torture and slay women. The jury did not buy her defence strategy. She was convicted in Monroe’s murder on February 23, 1990. She was sentenced 2 days later to a probationary period of 10 years. The Bailey trial was still to come.
Sharon Green Pleads to Bailey
- March 1, 1990

On March 1, as part of a plea bargain, Sharon Green pleaded guilty to killing Sandra Lorraine Bailey. The next day, Sharon received a concurrent 10-year probation sentence.

Three people travelling through Memorial Oak Park in suburban Fort Worth found a dead body. Gardner G. Nolley had been stabbed 3 times, including once in the heart. His 1980 Chevy Camaro was found May 24 near downtown Lubbock. The murderers had set it on fire. Nolley was on the prosecutor’s list of witnesses for the Green trial. Police said there was no connection between the murder, and Green.
Green Sentenced to Die
- September 14, 1990
- Fort Worth, Texas
During the trial, Green’s sister said he confessed that his wife was involved, but he told police he acted alone. On September 14, 1990, Green is convicted for the murder of Fefferman. While talking to a clinical psychologist, Green has suggested Fefferman deserved to die for being gay. Only during the sentencing phase does the jury hear about the other murders. He is sentenced to death on September 21.

Female Serial Killers: How and Why Women Become Monsters by Peter Vronsky
Publisher : Berkley; Illustrated
Paperback : 512 pages
ISBN-13 : 978-0425213902
In this fascinating book, Peter Vronsky exposes and investigates the phenomenon of women who kill—and the political, economic, social and sexual implications buried with each victim.
How many of us are even remotely prepared to imagine our mothers, daughters, sisters or grandmothers as fiendish killers? For centuries we have been conditioned to think of serial murderers and psychopathic predators as men—with women registering low on our paranoia radar. Perhaps that’s why so many trusting husbands, lovers, family friends, and children have fallen prey to “the female monster.”
From history’s earliest recorded cases of homicidal females to Irma Grese, the Nazi Beast of Belsen, from Britain’s notorious child-slayer Myra Hindley to ‘Honeymoon Killer’ Martha Beck to the sensational cult of Aileen Wournos—the first female serial killer-as-celebrity—to cult killers, homicidal missionaries, and our pop-culture fascination with the sexy femme fatale, Vronsky not only challenges our ordinary standards of good and evil but also defies our basic accepted perceptions of gender role and identity.

Texas Death Row puts faces to those condemned men and women, with stark details on their crimes, sentencing, last meals, and last words. Definitive and objective, Texas Death Row will provide ample fuel for readers on both sides of the death penalty debate.

Hardwired Behavior: What Neuroscience Reveals about Morality by Laurence Tancredi
Publisher : Cambridge University Press (June 28 2010)
Paperback : 240 pages
ISBN-13 : 978-0521127394
In many areas of modern life rapid developments in science are overwhelming established norms. Brain biology, through DNA testing and advanced brain imaging techniques, has given medical scientists new insights into the functioning of the human mind. This erosion of long-standing beliefs has many implications for understanding and treating what society considers to be aberrant or immoral behavior. What medical science is indicating is that the focus of our emphasis on mental processes–particularly free will and intentionality–is shifting to recognition of the important role the physical brain plays on human thought and behavior. In Hardwired Behavior the author argues that social morality begins in the brain, for without the brain there would be no concept of morality. Individual responsibility, therefore, must be reconsidered in the light of biological brain processes. The question of whether new scientific findings destroy the relevance of free will, placing it in the context of biological forces that may operate outside the conscious control of the actor, is one of intense debate. Hardwired Behavior takes this question and moves it into the open by clearly detailing neuroscience discoveries and explaining how the ancient precepts of “morality” that have guided mankind throughout its history must now be seen through the new lens of brain biology.
